Rule 5 Draft

On yesterday’s Daily Scouting Report on Darron O’Day I talked about the Rule 5 Draft. A couple people have responded by saying they wanted me to write about it. Here is the Rule 5 Draft.

If a player has served 5 or more season in the minor leagues then their team has to put him on the 40-man roster. If the team decides not to put him on the 40-man roster then he is eligible for the Rule 5 Draft. During the offseason, a Rule 5 Draft is held. Teams can pick a player or skip their pick. When a team picks a player they will go with the team to spring training. After the spring the new team would have to put the player on the major league roster. If they don’t then the player would go back to their original team.
If a player makes the major league team but then is dropped to waivers then his old team would have first dib at him.
