While nobody will believe me this is what I think:
Oliver Perez had a bad outing yesterday. Next start which will be on Wednesday against the Padres, I think he will pitch well. On Mathew Cerone’s, Metsblog he wrote on his twitter feed that he thinks Oliver will do well next start because he did bad yesterday. He said Oliver is a 50, 50 guy so every other outing he will do well.
My thought is that Oliver will pitch somewhere between well enough to win and 8 shutout or 1 run innings. Ollie is a good pitcher. He was 10-7 last year and 15-10 the year before.
When I think of O.P. I think that he is a very good pitcher. Someone that can sometimes go 8 innings. Most people think of him as we will be lucky if he comes out with less then 5 runs. From when he has been a Met he has gone out and pitched quality games. He just throws a few bad outings which makes people think that he is a bad pitcher. I am not saying he is a guy to trust in a game on the line but you can usually trust him to do well enough to win.
If you remember in the World Baseball Classic, Oliver threw only twice in 17 days and one of those outings he threw 85 pitches. That put Oliver behind everyone. Now I would say that his next start would be his last start of the spring or first start of season. He should get better as the season goes on.
The Daily News quoted pitching coach Dan Warthen by saying:
I think he’s out of shape, the arm is out of shape. It’s a combination. Since he’s come back we really haven’t seen the life out of the hand, the ball is just not jumping out right now… I think he’s gained a little weight and needs to start pushing himself a little more.”
Wathen then later said that Perez wasn’t doing his workouts at the WBC.
That can’t be good. Perez you better start working out more. We will need you this year.
This is my point about why the WBC is bad. Players should be with their teams to get ready for the season. I would expect that of Perez. To not do any work while he is away with Team Mexico.
In a post on Mets.com, Jerry Manual is quoted by saying, “And when the hitters come back, it will give me a better evaluation.”
It seems to me that he won’t be making a decision on anyone until the end of the World Baseball Classic. So we will be going through this for a long time.
First off I still don’t get how the Netherlands beat the Dominican Republic twice. The good thing is that Reyes is now back so he won’t have to compete with Hanley Ramirez for at bats.
I just don’t like the idea of having it.It is spring training. The players have to get ready for the 162 game season. To get ready they should be with the team they are going to be playing with. The MLB tried to fix it by extending spring training but now spring training is too long.
I think having it is good for players like Pedro Martinez, who is trying to get teams to want him but for players like Jose Reyes, why have it. Reyes should be getting at bats not compete with Hanley Ramirez.
I think if they have it it should be during the winter. Maybe even part of the Winter olympics. Play it in a dome because they got rid of baseball in the olympics because the MLB wouldn’t let their players go to it.
The 2 Mets from the Dominican Republic are back after losing twice to the Netherlands. Jose Reyes and Fernando Tatis are back in camp and should be in the lineup tonight against the Marlins.
Reyes has said that he enjoyed himself and is happy to be back and and hat he also was impressed with Pedro Martinez. He said he would be happy to see Pedro back next year.
Tatis on the other hand said he didn’t like it at the classic
