Lots and Lots of Injuries

Over the weekend there were a lot of injuries that happened to the Mets but since I had no internet, I wasn’t able to blog about them. Here is a list of injuries:

Could be back this week.
Brian Schnieder – He has been working in extended spring training. Hopes to be back this week.
Jose Reyes – Did not play in Boston. Jerry Manual said that Reyes would not play today (Monday) at Citi Field against the Nats.
Francisco Rodrieguez – After being in the hospital Saturday, Franky was able to jog out to the bullpen yesterday and he did alittle bit of warming up.
Ryan Church – He could be sent to the disabled list according to Manual. Jerry said that Church will be examined on his sore right hamstring today.
Ramon Martinez – He was taken out in the 8th inning yesterday due to back pain. Manual also said that Fernando Tatis could be the starter at shortstop today.
With all of these injuries the Mets only have 2 guys on the bench. The backup catcher and Reed or Pagan.

Today’s Question:

Yesterday the Mets put Alex Cora on the DL and recalled Ramon Martinez. He has appeared in 1 World Series. The more info you give about Martinez playing in that World Series, the more points you get. When someone guesses you can then add more information. It can be about stats, team, year, something special he did or something else about him in that World Series.

Jerry Manual, Lineups, 5/9 – Trivia

Jerry Manual:

Jerry Manual has been suspended 1 game for his argument with the 1st base umpire on Thursday.

I was at the game and it was a bad call. Bench couch Sandy Alomar will manage today’s game.

5/9 – Trivia

Rubber Duck Trivia

Yesterday’s trivia goes to Shelley of Diamond Diva for knowing that Les Rohr was the first mets draft pick. She moves in to first place in front of The Season Experience as Donnie keeps moving down the list after being in first place.

Daily Scouting Report: Gary Sheffield

Gary Sheffield has had 2 plate appearances this year. A strikeout last Thursday against the Reds and walk last Friday against the Marlins.

Sheffield is 1 home run shy of 500 so in all likelihood he will reach 500 as a Met. The question is: When will he get at bats?
Sheffield is yet to take the field for the Mets but Jerry Manual said that Sheffield should be in the lineup on Wednesday night against the Padres.
The problem is that it would mean not playing Ryan Church (.478 AVG, 2 RBIs, 6 doubles, .538 On Base Percentage) and play Gary Sheffield (0 for 1 this year, .225 AVG, 19 HR, 57 RBIs last season). It seems to me that Church has the hot hand and should continue to play especially against a right hand pitcher. (If it was a lefty pitching then it might make some sense.) If they rest Church for a day then that could put him in a slump. As much as I like Jerry, it seems that Sheff should stay on the bench. I didn’t like the move when it was made. Sheffield should have gone to extended spring training and not the Opening Day Roster.

My guess is that Sheffield will get booed tomorrow at Citi Field when he is announced and again on Wednesday when he is announced in the lineup.

Red Sox at Mets (Lineup)

Here is the lineup for the 2nd exhibition game vs. the Red Sox.

#7 – Jose Reyes – SS
#28 – Daniel Murphy – LF
#5 – David Wright – 3B
#21 – Carlos Delgado – 1B
#17 – Fernando Tatis – DH
#19 – Ryan Church – RF
#9 – Marlon Anderson – CF
#23 – Brian Schnieder -C
#1 – Luis Castillo – 2B
#46 – Oliver Perez – P
Not sure why Beltran isn’t playing. Also Jerry Manual said that Sheffield won’t be playing RF in the first series against the Reds.

The game starts at 1 and will be on PIX 11, MLB Network, WFAN, WADO (Spanish) and for free on MLB.TV.
