Lots and Lots of Injuries

Over the weekend there were a lot of injuries that happened to the Mets but since I had no internet, I wasn’t able to blog about them. Here is a list of injuries:

Could be back this week.
Brian Schnieder – He has been working in extended spring training. Hopes to be back this week.
Jose Reyes – Did not play in Boston. Jerry Manual said that Reyes would not play today (Monday) at Citi Field against the Nats.
Francisco Rodrieguez – After being in the hospital Saturday, Franky was able to jog out to the bullpen yesterday and he did alittle bit of warming up.
Ryan Church – He could be sent to the disabled list according to Manual. Jerry said that Church will be examined on his sore right hamstring today.
Ramon Martinez – He was taken out in the 8th inning yesterday due to back pain. Manual also said that Fernando Tatis could be the starter at shortstop today.
With all of these injuries the Mets only have 2 guys on the bench. The backup catcher and Reed or Pagan.
If you have not yet guessed on today’s trivia
then you can find it here.

Reyes, Peavy and Ollie

The Mets today announced that Jose Reyes is day to day after getting tendentious in is calf yesterday. As Noble Thoughts said, you never know what the Mets are hiding and Reyes could actually be really badly hurt.

Also today the Padres made a deal with the Chicago White Sox  for Jake Peavy but Peavy waived his no trade claus saying that he wants to stay in the National league on a team playing in Central United States.
In other news Oliver Perez pitched a game in extended spring training today. He went 5 innings but I have not been able to find out his line. Brian Schnieder caught Perez today.

Tonight’s Game and 5/19 – Trivia

Today’s Lineup:

Lineup 5/19
Reyes back in. That is good. Also Murphy is finally back in the lineup. Also no Castillo. Interesting Jerry.
Rubber Duck Trivia

Yesterday’s trivia was not guessed on. Same question today. There can be more than one answer.

Today’s Question:

Yesterday the Mets put Alex Cora on the DL and recalled Ramon Martinez. He has appeared in 1 World Series. The more info you give about Martinez playing in that World Series, the more points you get. When someone guesses you can then add more information. It can be about stats, team, year, something special he did or something else about him in that World Series.

Daily Scouting Report: Jackie Robinson

In today’s Daily Scouting Report, I will talk about what it would be like if Jackie Robinson was still alive.

  1. He would be 90.
  2. Most likely, Major League Baseball would not have retired his number on every team.
  3. Most likely, Citi Field doesn’t have a Jackie Robinson Rotunda,
  4. He would be harassed by the media today.
but what would have happened if he never existed.

  1. African Americans probably wouldn’t play in any sport which would make basketball very different.
  2. Hispanics might not be allowed in the MLB which would mean that:
  • No Jose Reyes
  • No Johan Santana
  • No Franky Rodriguez
  • No Carlos Delgado
  • No Oliver Perez (who I still trust)
  • No Livan Hernandez
  • No Carlos Beltran
  • No Gary Sheffield

Postgame: Mets 8 Marlins 4

Last Night the Mets (3-2) beat the Marlins (4-1) 8-4 in Miami.

W- Livan Hernandez (1-0)

L – Ricky Nolasco (1-1)
Box Score/Recap

At the Plate:
  • After taking early BP with Jerry Manual, Luis Castillo goes 4 for 4.
  • Jose Reyes hit his first home run of the year.
  • The Mets were 5 for 14 with runners in scoring position (.357) which is much better then the previous day at 1 for 10 (.100).
On the Mound:
  • Livan Hernandez was good. Here is his line:

L Hernandez (W, 1-0) 6.2 6 2 2 3 4 0 99-62 2.70

  • Brian Stokes then pitched to one batter and gave up a hit. He was then relieved by Pedro Feliciano who finished the inning.
  • Darron O’Day then pitched a good 8th inning but struggled in the 9th so they brought in Franky Rodriguez in a non-save situation and he got the job done.
  • This was the first game for the Mets this year that a starting Pitcher went 6 or more innings.
My Thoughts:
It was a good game for Livan. If it was late in the season then Livan doesn’t come out. It is good to see that Castillo had a amazing game but lets see if he can do it again today because if he can then he may not be boooed on Monday at Citi Field.

Player of Game:
Luis Castillo for going 4 for 4 and responding to Jerry Manual.
Up Next:
Today will be the rubber game at Dolphin Stadium with Johan Santana going against Josh Johnson. The game will be at 1:10 PM on SNY.
