  • The bullpen’s line was this:
Bullpen IP  H  R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA

    P Feliciano (H, 2) 0.1 0 0 0 0 0 0 5-3 4.50

    Totals 6.0 3 2 2 0 4 1 55-39

My Opinion:
Johan was great. Parnell, Feliciano and Putz all relieved well. Johan had to keep his pitch count lower and get another inning. Franky was wild and not so good. He hadn’t pitched in 6 days so that was a problem.

Player of Game:
Johan Santana for his great day.

Today at 1 PM vs Nats.

Daily Scouting Report: Bobby Parnell

This is the first major league report so far. While Jerry Manual hasn’t confirmed that Parnell will be on the team, it is pretty obvious that he will. And not just in the pen but relied on in close games sometimes.

Last year, he appeared in 6 games (5 IP) and had a ERA of 5.40 as a September call-up.
This spring he is 1-0 with a ERA of 2.19 in 9 games (12 1/3 IP)
In 4 minor league season he is 22-19 with a 4.03 ERA in 94 minor league games (92 games started)
I am glad to see that Parnell made the team but it seems that Parnell will be a reliever for his Mets carer not a starter. Which is fine. I am kind of expecting him to be a future closer. His mid to high 90 MPH fast ball would make him a good closer.

Orioles 1 at Mets 2 (postgame)

Today at Tradition Field, the Mets beat the Orioles 2-1.

W – J.J. Putz (3-0)
L – Jim Johnson (0-1)
S – Bobby Parnell (1)
  • Oliver Perez was good. 6 2/3 innings but was pulled for throwing 93 pitches. Only 1 run.
  • Daniel Murphy tied the game in the 4th with a home run.
  • Fernando Tatis took the lead in the 8th with a tripple and scoring on a throwing error.
  • Putz and Parnell were good out of the pen.

Daily Scouting Report: Dillon Gee

I am going to start something called the Daily Scouting Report that I hope will get more viewers to come back each day. The report will usually be on a minor league player but may be on a opposing player or a opposing team. For the first one I would like to scout Dillon Gee, who is pitching today against the Marlins at 1 PM on PIX 11.

Here is Gee’s bio. So far this spring Gee has pitched in 4 games and started 1. He has pitched 6 innings in total and has givin up 7 runs (only 2 earned).
Gee, 22 years old, has spent 2 years with the Mets. In 2007 he was on the Brooklyn Cyclones and was 3-1 in 14 games (11 started) with a ERA of 2.47. He pitched 62 innings striking out 56 batters and only walking 9 batters.
Last year they brought him up to St. Lucie. He was 8-6 in 21 games (started all of them) with a ERA of 3.25 in 127 1/3 innings pitched. He also won five straight decisions from May 30-July 6Then in August they sent him up to double A and was 2-0 in 4 starts allowing 1 run in each start. He had a 1.33 ERA.
Gee is not looking to make the team but would like to show the Mets and their fans (he will be on TV) that he can get major league hitters out.
This game reminds me of that split squad game last year when Niese pitched one game and Parnell pitched the other. The game was late in spring training, on TV, with a guy who is not trying to make the team but is just showing who he is. Who knows. Maybe Gee will come up later in the year and be like Niese or Parnell.

Here is a video of a game that Gee pitched in 2007:

Mets 9 at Cardinals 5 (postgame)

The Mets (11-13-1) today beat the Cardinals (16-8-2) by a score of 9-5 in Jupiter today.

W – J.J.Putz (2-0)
L – Trever Miller (0-2)

  • John Maine looked pretty good. He got off to a bad start in the first and then rebounded and went 5 innings. Putz and Parnell then followed with 1-2-3 innings. Here is the Mets Pitching box score:

    Maine 5.0 6 3 1 3 5 0 8.00
    Putz  1.0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0.00
    Parnell 1.0 0 0 0 1 0 0 2.38
    Figueroa, N 1.0 2 1 1 0 0 0 10.80
    Muniz 1.0 1 1 1 1 2 1 4.91

The Mets had a 7 run 7th inning. During it the Mets some surprise RBI people. Mike Nickeas hit a 2 out RBI single in his 2nd at bat of the spring to take a 4-3 lead. (He is 2 for 2 this spring.) Following Nickeas, Jonathan Malo drives in a run on a error. Then Jose Reyes has a 2 RBI single to make the score 7-3. Then Omir Santos hit a pinch hit 2 run homer to make the score 9-3.

Tomorrow the National will come to town with Johan on the mound on SNY.
…update 10:50 PM
I forgot to mention that Maine threw 95 pitches in his 5 innings of work.
Thats not great but he would’ve pitched a 6th in the regular season. He also had a new delivery that he had to get used to.

Tigers 10 at Mets 6 (postgame)

Sorry for no pre-game post.

The Mets (10-13-1) lost today to the Tigers (9-13) by a score of 10 to 6 at Tradition Field today.
W: Scott Williamson (1-0)
L: Ron Villone (0-1)
Here is a mlb.com Recap and Box Score.
  • Oliver Perez was shacking giving up 6 runs on 3 and 2/3 innings of work. Not a good sign at all.
  • Carlos Muniz, Elmer Dessens and Bobby Parnell all pitched scoreless innings but Ron Villone was in the middle of them giving up 4 runs on his inning of work and also getting the lose. Brian Stokes also finished the game with 2 scoreless innings. Villone won’t make the team but it is a good sign that Parnell is doing well.
  • Carlos Beltran was 2 for 3 with a RBI in his first game back from the WBC while Carlos Delgado was 0 for 2 with a walk in his first game back.
  • Fernando Tatis was 3 for 3 and is hitting .408 this spring in his bid for playing time this year.
